Going upstream...

Acherontas sessions II

Setting off early on the last day of August, my friends and I visited Gliki and the Springs of the Acherontas river after about an hour drive. Maria hadn't been there for ages ( she's been living abroad since 2011 ) and it was Rebecca's first time. They were stunned by the beauty they saw... We headed upstream walking along the right bank and then getting into the river as there is a dead-end to the path. Photos of the right bank have been posted previously this July when visiting the river with other friends.  There's a lot of wading, swimming and hiking but the view is worth it. It is wise to wear trainers or some kind of summer hiking shoes, definitely not flip flops as one won't be able to walk in the river, there are too many stones, boulders and strong currents along the way...The waters are crystal clear and very cold and after a downpour two weeks ago the waters got deeper. Setting off early means that fewer people will be exploring the river...still towards the end of August, you don't meet many tourists, to tell the truth. We came back to the starting point walking along the left bank of the river after about two hours. We didn't do the whole tour as the girls got hungry at some point. It was great fun! And they're looking forward to doing it again next year. Most of the photos were taken by a second-hand GoPro 5 ( the first and the last six by mobile ) as in all the previous visits I had to go back and leave my camera in the car so as to continue my hike in the river.
