On the hill where the house leans into the wind, she still sings.

They say she once loved a man with a trembling, all-consuming kind of love, the kind that feels like falling through dark water. The night she lost him, something inside her broke beyond repair. In a silence too heavy for breath, she made a choice that stitched their fates together in blood and shadow.

Now the windows glow faintly at dusk. A woman’s voice drifts down the road, soft, fractured, searching. It curls around passing strangers, slips into their dreams, presses against their ribs like a memory that isn’t theirs.

She wanders the halls replaying that final heartbeat, forever suspended between devotion and destruction. She cannot forgive herself. She cannot follow him.

So she sings.
